Crit B: Move past “it makes the reader interested.” Analyse how specific authorial choices create specific effects. Connotation, juxtaposition, lexical fields – always linked to the idea.
A Logical Argument That Makes a Claim
Crit C: Your essay must be more than a list of observations. Build a clear argument that unfolds logically, with each paragraph adding a new layer. Not just “the writer uses techniques” – but “the writer structures the argument to first reveal… then challenge…”
